Context and topic

For my FMP I must cover the topic of identity, therefore in the baffled planning, I have to choose to cover the history, society, and culture of the great Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. My project breaks down the 3 elements of what makes the identity and explicitly explains it to the audience with both editorial text and visual material such as photos.

Identity is a pile of facts about someone or something which guides people to what impression and knowledge they have about you, prime example could be a sportsman, a sportsman is known as a professional at his sport, and the character which he presents to the world when interviewed or watched by his audience, what race he is, what nationality and culture he is part of, therefore these 3 elements define you a character or something with a character value.

Roman History

The great Roman empire has left such a big mark in history, that its culture, traditions, and society can be found in our identity of Western European society. Ancient Rome was founded in 753 b.c as a small village in central, what we know of as modern-day, Italy, and has expanded its borders from up in the north Atlantic to the far east Persian Gulf reaching its prime in 117 A.D. Rome's expansion has carried their influence of roman civilization and culture all over their conquered land, making Rome the enormous superpower our historian has told us, which later on, its impact creates everything that defines the western civilization, the development of the such nation has led to a massive upgrade to roman engineering and architecture, as an example of roman ingenuity can be seen by the water aqueducts that carry a water flow on a far distance and also it.

Roman Society

Due to the fact of that roman society was the foundation of western society, many fundamentals are shared such as the binary socio-economic division of the poor and rich with shared rituals between the two classes.

For the rich, life was extravagant and quite separated from the poor's lifestyle, rich roman elites would live in closed neighborhoods and small communities outside of Rome in big marvellous mansions on hills. This is due to staying as far from the crowded and poor conditions of the city where many poor, laborers, traders and vagabonds lived. Their lifestyles would be spoiled with exotic merchandise from conquered lands, slaves which worked for them to have a higher comfort, and last and not least accessibility to a rich education in important and complex topics such as logistics, history, mathematics, and the biggest of all philosophy.

On the other hand, the poor population would live in not solid houses which provide just enough shelter for them to live and reproduce but under very low conditions, the poorness of such an environment often forces parents to abandon newborn babies in street with the hope that someone with a better lifestyle and income would take him and introduce him to an upper life. - PBS
